This appears to be a very healthy train for 1970, albeit in the Christman season.

BN existed for 25 years, but they only operated passenger service for just over one year (aside from some commuter operations). Formed on March 2, 1970, then turned over passenger trains to Amtrak on May 1, 1971, so any shots of trains like this are indeed a rarity. Very nice!

What I don’t understand is HOW this train ran?

There is snow on the ground and it’s obviously cold. And steam heating to boot?

Amjoke sez what these pictures show can’t be done.
Obviously fake photos, nobody can run passenger trains in the upper Midwest winter.

BNSF of today does not equal the staffing levels, institutional knowledge with  GN of yesterday with tried and well tested (old) BN equipment

but there should be 2 passenger trains each way a day on this route, and a NCH?
