Triple at Logan Hill
Author: bobdavis

Even though it doesn't seem that long ago, the attached shot of three trains meeting at the top of Logan Hill in the Powder River Basin probably qualifies as "nostalgia".  Two Union Pacific loads are about to pass under the Steckley Road bridge as a BNSF empty with a brand new lead unit heads back to the mines.  A fourth train, another UP load, is visible in the distance.  This "triple" was among the 13 trains we saw at that spot in just under two hours on September 24, 2012.  I haven't been back to the PRB since that trip and wonder what the odds of getting a triple like this are nowadays?  If anyone got lucky and got a shot of a four-train meet I'd love to see it.

Very nice, Bob.  I was there last Thursday, and I think we got six or maybe seven trains in about three hours.  As noted in this thread from yesterday (https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5919905), the fourth track is now being used for car storage.  Nothing like what it once was - I believe it was actually busier in 1993 when I first visited, and much of the line was still single track.

On the day when we saw the 13 trains in less than two hours at Steckley Rd. we met a fan from California who had been there just watching 'em roll since daybreak and had already seen 37 trains between that time and 430pm.  Add the 13 more we saw after 430pm and that's 50 trains in daylight hours.  It was a show likely never to be repeated.

A nice photo of 3 trains on 4 tracks.  The 4th train is in the distance.

Spent a night there in 2010 with a fellow TO member, the show was not to be believed.
