Rail line that reached paper mill in Ontonogn on the shore of Lake Superior. The line extended down to a connection with CN at Green Bay.
In this post I follow from Channing south to Iron Mountain, Channing being station and small engine facility south of Ontonogon A late winter chase 3/14/2006. 1) Train from Ontonogon arrives at Channing. (Another story and photos. The train had left Channing mid Afternoon of 3/13 and recrewed in Ontonogon, fighting drifts back., arrive on morning of 3/14) 2) Train southbound for Crivitiz at Channing ready to depart. I believe my last visit to the U.P. was in October 1986. Catching anything on the fly was nearly impossible. I always thought it would have been interesting to make a dedicated railfan trip. That never happened. While I spotted bits and pieces these photos are very interesting. Thanks, Gonut |
