D&H challenger

Delaware and Hudson Challenger #1512  at South Schenectady New York taken by my Father Harry R. Lange probably in the late 1940s. I didn't know D&H had 4-6-6-4s till i scanned this negative.

ALCo must have thought D&H was silly to
insist on a headlight recessed into the door.

This appears to be a southbound taken from the NYC RR overpass with the Challenger ducking under the Princetown Road highway overpass.

D&H had 40 such Alco-built Challengers delivered in 3 batches that were used south of Mechanicville/Schenectady to/from Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre, I believe. Unfortunately all were scrapped by 1952-53.

While none of the D&H Challengers survive, the tender off one of them ended becoming CP 2816's auxiliary tender.
