My future friend Tony Fey shot this slide in 1971 while I was still only a junior in High School. I wouldn’t make his acquaintance until about 1980. Even so, this is exactly how I remember the Emporia facility when I first saw it in 1976...

1. Looking east at the 32-stall roundhouse in Emporia, KS on November 29, 1971.
Original Kodachrome slide by Tony Fey.

Thanks for looking back!

Love roundhouses!  Spent a lot of time wandering around Lindenwood on the Frisco while Dad did BofLE business.  Full of steam back then and Mom would give me hell for being so dirty and greasy when we got home.  Special places.

The smaller brick building just to the right of the FM switcher was where the mechanical guys had their office and work benches, and tools. We would go in there first if we picked up our power there, or go in waiting on the cab to pick us up and take us over to the depot to tie up. (On a nice day we would walk if we were already on final terminal). It also had the old washroom with the big sink.

Lot better shot than any I took......and it wasn't until after 1982 when I picked up a camera.

Good timing! It was during winter 83/84 that the RH was razed… ☹️
