On December 14th 4449 and the Spirit of the West train fly thru Halsey on the way to the first overnight stay in Eugene Oregon. Several SP business cars along with a couple of DRGW cars were in the consist.  If nyone wants a list of the cars just ask. The power on this section of the run to Medford Oregon consisted of 4449 and DRGW SD50 #5514. An SP SD45T-2 was added at Eugene.

Question : a recent posting in Nostalgia talked about 4449's whistle . To me the whistle on this video does not sound like the whistle on 4449 when it came thru Texas enroute to the World's Fair in New Orleans in the summer of 1984.  Which whistle was on 4449 in this video and which whistle was on 4449 when it came thru TX in 1984 ?

It's not.

The whistle on 4449 from the American Freedom Train operation thru about the mid 1980s was the late Joe Crumbly's whistle originally off SP&S 700. When the SP&S 700 was eventually returned to service, Doyle gave the "Joe Crumbly whistle" back the SP&S 700 group. Then the late Dick Yager allowed his Northern Pacific whistle to be mounted on the Engineer's side of 4449, which was used thru about 2015, when Martin Hansen acquired an original SP GS series whistle (which is still on 4449).

Yes, could you provide the list of cars on the Spirit of the West special.
