My Favorite Switcher
Author: MartyBernard

I liked the opposing piston Fairbanks Morse units when I worked as a switchman for the CNW during a college summer. They were different in sound and looks. And this one, #1064, still had the old paint scheme. Specifically she was CNW 1064, a Fairbanks Morse model H10-44, a 1000 hp switch engine built 1/50 and retired 9/76. Here's two photos of her.

1. Seen here in July 1966 in Proviso Yards on the CNW West Line in Chicago's western suburbs.

2. Seen here in July 1966 in Proviso Yards on the CNW West Line in Chicago's western suburbs dragging around GP7 1643 in new paint, built 4/53 and retired 6/85.
