Grab Bag with a few mysteries
Author: train1275

In going through some miscellaneous files today, I came across an eclectic batch of images I thought I'd share.

A few Adirondack Scenic in Upstate New York

1. Working as engineer out of Utica on 1502 (ex GM&O F3 884A built 1947) I have pulled into Thendara NY and I'm in the hole looking at 1508 (ex Alaska RR) on the local about to leave southbound for Otter Lake. June 9, 2012.

2. Same day as above looking south past the depot at 1502.

3. In the Fall of 2011 ex CP RS-18 sits in the Thendara Yard still in red. This is ex CP 1835, exx 8780 built in 1958.

Thendara is 52 miles north of Utica on the former New York Central Adirondack Division originally going to Montreal and Lake Placid.

10. Lehigh Valley 215 at Canastota, NY on the line north of Cortland. This is the last train, December 26, 1967 getting ready to head back to Cortland for the last time. - From Richard F. Palmer

11. Alaska RR GP49's 2808 and 2805 pose outside of the Anchorage Shop on December 20, 2007 set out for inspection for sale. At the time I was General Foreman-Locomotives and also the used locomotive salesman trying to peddle off the GP49 fleet. We had the units spotted outside for some locomotive lookie-loos to inspect to see if they wanted to buy them. I guess someone (not me) thought if the trucks were spiffied up with silver paint that would enhance their image.

There was a thread about this unit on Loconotes back in 2008.  The history they pieced together is that it started life as B&O SW900 650, later 9425, burned in a roundhouse fire in 1980, rebuilt into an SW9 by Railroad Equipment Supply to become Union Railroad 575 (2nd), then Birmingham Southern 575, refurbished again by Titan Rail Inc. (a.k.a. TANX) and leased to General Electric at Louisville, Ky.  This photo of Birmingham Southern 575 confirms the same weird headlight as TANX 1251 (without the Mars light above it):
