I remember the fun we got from chasing & shooting the ROCK blue & white. I just wish I had been a little bit more diligent in chasing the Rock Island before the bitter end came crashing down…

A great set of photos.  Thanks for posting.  Always like the SD40-2s in red and yellow.

Was 4538 in the paint booth when the Rock Island shut down?  Amazingly fresh paint job for a year after the Rock quit running.  Or is the date wrong?

Thanks for posting Marty.  A couple of these shots need some color correction.  The first shot is way to dark red, and one of the SD40-2 shots is the same.  These units were in the Jervis Langdon bright red and yellow scheme, which remains my personal favorite Rock Island scheme.

All of the Geeps that MK rebuilt (as in the first photo) were repainted into Blue/White
shortly after returning to the RI.
