Nostalgia & History > Some variety from 1985Date: 01/09/25 15:12 Some variety from 1985 Author: Guitartrain 1. FOUR! No, not the great Miles Davis jazz tune, but four wheel sets with four MDOT F9PHs 7184, 7183, 7185 & 7181. The F's are laying over in Chessie System's Brunswick Yard on an early Sunday afternoon. On Monday morn, they will get to work shoving a horde of commuters to work. 12:50PM on 1-6-85 in Brunswick, MD.
2. In two states. If not for the date of this photo, I could probably pass it off as true Norfolk & Western. High hood SD45-1767, SD40-2-6122 & SD35-1502 are on the point of a S/B manifest freight crossing the Potomac River on NS's Hagerstown District. If you believe the placement of the border line on Google satellite view, the 1767 & 6122 are in West Virginia while from the 1502 on back is in Maryland. 11:48AM on 1-27-85 in Shepherdstown, WV. 3. A visitor from the South, Norfolk Southern GP38AC-2858, still in full Southern Railway paint and running long hood forward, has worked its way onto the point of an E/B Chessie System grain train. It, along with CHSY SD40-7549, is passing HX Tower, on track two of CHSY's Washington Sub. Mid-morning on 2-10-85 in Halethorpe, MD. But I also give credit the hostler, who would consistently tie those trainsets down for the weekend in echelon left formation. /Ted Date: 01/10/25 02:56 Re: Some variety from 1985 Author: gcm Excellent set !
Gary Date: 01/10/25 04:55 Re: Some variety from 1985 Author: GPutz Bill, Thanks for posting all your great pictures. As for the border issue: the Potomac River is in the District of Columbia and Maryland from Jones Point in Alesandria, VA, north and west, not in Virginia or West Virginia. Gerry

Gerry What is the "border issue"? What the OP stated was that the first two units are in West Virginia [which they appear to be], while the third unit is in Maryland [which it appears to be since it's still above the river and hasn't yet reached the WV shoreline. Guitartrain's caption is 100% spot-on accurate. /Ted |
