The study of small town depots led me to the remote "wide spot" of Elrod, South Dakota. Named for the fifth Governor of South Dakota, Samuel Elrod, the two "granger roads" had a crossing near Elrod and according to these pictures, there was some business conducted there. There might be one or two buildings at the site of Elrod today but the rails are long gone and so is the commerce. The only photos I could find were of Milwaukee Road facilities.
