Author: sig292

On September 1, 1988, Conrail GP40-2s 3333 & 3194 led an eastbound train, stopping momentarily at the site of the Lehigh valley's passenger station
at Easton, Pennsylvania.
The vacant EASTON tower was demolished soon after.

I miss the good old days when you could stop in and get a line up of trains from the operator.  Sunday mornings one could usually find Charlie Bealer at the desk.

IN the  top picturre look at the railing along the platform. At the far left nearest the tower is the original railing installed in 1927. Then you see a rplacement railing. This replacement railing was installed in the late 1970s when a Conrail train derailed at speed along the platform. One end of a box car came down into parking lot and demolished the (unoccupied) automobile belomging to the tower operator.

In the first photo, at the far end of the signal bridge, there appears to be a double-headed set of "circle trilight" signals turned sideways.  Have they been put out of service by the searchlights, or are they going to be swung into service for a distant track at some point?

Was Conrail still using the Lehigh Valley bridge across The Delaware
by this date or had they already switched over to the CNJ bridge?

The cutover to the CNJ was around the first week of May 1989.
