Nostalgia & History > Caption this crew!Date: 01/31/25 09:30 Caption this crew! Author: santafe199 My offering: “He wants me to jog up ahead and do WHAT???”
1. MILW 6009 is coming off the Columbia River bridge in Vancouver, WA* on August 1, 1975. Original Kodachrome slide by the late James W. Watson. Thanks for playing! Only two seats in this locomotive - where else does the brakeman go-? Date: 01/31/25 11:21 Re: Caption this crew! Author: NCA1022 This photo may well be at Ottumwa IA, but it's also a dead ringer for a northbound MILW train from Portland, OR crossing the Columbia River into Vancouver, WA. Photographer would be standing on the Vancouver station platform. Double tracks curving to the left from under the train are the BN's ex-SP&S line on the north side of the Columbia river to Wishram / Pasco / Spokane. Loco appears to be on top of the derail for the bridge.
MILW had trackage rights on the BN to reach Portland OR from Tacoma WA. - Norm Date: 01/31/25 11:30 Re: Caption this crew! Author: MILW86A Thats not Ottumwa. That looks more like Vancouver WA

Evidently I transposed the location info during the long scanning session(s) through Jim's massive collection. Pretty easy to do when you're scanning upwards of 200 slides in one day. And I wasn't 100% sure myself. I spent time in Google Maps trying but not matching the big bridge with those currently in Ottumwa. That's why I have the question mark behind the river name. I'll get to work with the corrections. Thanks for alerting me, guys! :^) Lance Date: 01/31/25 13:15 Re: Caption this crew! Author: Mike6640-2 Is that J.David Ingles over there??

I think that the Milwaukee had trackage only between Portland and Chehalis, getting on their own trackage at Chehalis. Date: 01/31/25 21:24 Re: Caption this crew! Author: 8notch Someone needs Beano!!

"Will you shut off that #$%^$ electronic bell already!!!" "Hey, I just noticed if we rotated our numberboards 180 degrees, they'd still say 6009!" |
