Nostalgia & History > Livonia, Avon & Lakeville R.R.Date: 02/03/25 13:41 Livonia, Avon & Lakeville R.R. Author: nydepot Date: 02/03/25 14:00 Re: Livonia, Avon & Lakeville R.R. Author: stevelv Very cool and for those who don't know the Livonia Avon and Lakeville no longer goes to Livonia. The line from Lakeville to Livonia was abandoned in 1981 due to lack of support from New York State to repair and aging bridge. The LA&L built a transload facility at Lakeville for the remaining customers on the Livonia line. Finally, the 2-8-0 number 38 has an interesting history and is still with us today https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntingdon_and_Broad_Top_38

Date: 02/04/25 08:48 Re: Livonia, Avon & Lakeville R.R. Author: aehouse The late Gene Blabey invited Dick Allen and me to spend a day shooting the LA&L for publicity purposes. We spent a wonderful October day in 1970--overcast but full of atmosphere-- shooting the photo freight Gene made up and ran for our benefit.
Here's my shot, showing the same gent who appears in Dick's photo in the original post. Fifty-five years ago! Can it be????? Art House ![]() |
