Nostalgia & History > Toss Back Tuesday - NKP SwitchersDate: 02/04/25 12:00 Toss Back Tuesday - NKP Switchers Author: refarkas It is the summer of 1967 at the N&W yard in Brewster, Ohio where several stored ALCO switchers still are in full NKP paint.

The first thing I saw was an ancient wood caboose on the ground apparently used as a shack. That was W&LE territory! Brewster had been such a big terminal in W&LE and NKP days with a roundhouse, shops and yard that included one of those huge wooden, trestle, coaling docks.
The Wabash and its oligarchs owned the W&LE in the early 1900s as part of a route to get the Wabash to Pittsburgh. But that all fell through and the NKP eventually acquired it to boost its portfolio and transportation network handsomely. Victor Baird Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/04/25 14:22 by wabash2800.
