Bob Date: 02/04/25 16:08 Re: Where's the stairs? Author: wabash2800 Thanks for sharing. It wasn't unusual for railroads to call one level control centers like that towers. For example, in the early 1900s, the Wabash had a number of one story shacks with operators known as "Block Towers" There are also examples of interlocking control points knows as towers in employee timetables. Perhaps some of these single level buildings replaced two story interlocking towers if they burned down and the equipment became electric? (But there are example of small, one level buildings wth armstrong levers.) The two story interlocking tower in Crawfordsville, Indiana where the Big Four (NYC), Monon and Pennsy crossed was hit by a freight train and thereafter became a single level tower with it's original roof and 2nd floor.

Author: halfmoonharold On railroads, "cabin" and "tower" seem to be interchangeable terms, regardless of the actual characteristics of the structures. It seems to be a matter of preference on any given road.

Looks like they've done-in the freight house beyond it, though: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MUqCXHoibhacnb318 Date: 02/05/25 08:58 Re: Where's the stairs? Author: GPutz Yes, the roof collapsed about four years ago. Gerry
