Saluting roster shots (#58): N&W at Marysville
Author: santafe199

N&W fans might think the unit pictured below is in correct position to be leading a train. But with Union Pacific’s cab-signal system in play I would almost bet the farm that it’s only trailing. I did see -and shoot- N&W power leading long hood first down on the Kansas City ~ Salina KP back in those same 1970s. But that didn’t happen very often...

1. N&W 222 is trailing “in consist” on the UP in Marysville, KS on February 21, 1977.
Original Kodachrome slide by the late James W. Watson.

Thanks for looking back!

Nice roster photo of N&W GP35.  As a matter of information, N&W's GP35's were equipped with dual controls as were all other EMD units purchased by N&W until late 1974/early 1975.
The long hood was designated as the front with the corresponding control set having a speed recorder.  The other control set had a speedometer.
Thanks for your interesting posting.
