Milwaukee Road Chicago Union Station pre-Amtrak
Author: KCRW287

A 6 minute flick showing the northend of Chicago Union Station of some Milwaukee Road, probably late sixties, shows full length trains at the end. I have felt that there is not much shown of this part of CUS, so here is some. Jim Woodfield photographer, my collection, KCRW287

Very good 6 minutes!  Excellent quality and content.
I know little about Chicago railroading but found it interesting that MLW Road mixed E's and F's.
Also, that the Hiawatha handled steam line pig cars up front.
Thanks for posting.

Yes, the Milwaaukee mixed E's and F's on their Twin Cities service trains in the 60's.  We might be able to better date these shots if we knew when the MILW took the Skytop lounges off the ends of the Hiawathas.  I would think the first SKytop train was the Morning Hi, and the second was the Afternoon Hi.  The first UP train looked like the combines CofLA/CofSF and I'm not really sure aobut the second.  Thanks for posting the video.

Thanks for the memories.  I probably whitnessed  most of this equipment at one time or another, and rode on a lot of it.  I even remember when the Hiawathas were maroon and orange and pulled by E-6s and E-7s. Seems like it was only a few weeks ago.

In the baggage scene, you can see the 10 South Riverside Plaza building, which was built in 1965, but the 120 South Riverside building fron 1967 is not yet covering the tracks.
So it has to be in 1966 time frame.

Thanks to all with info about this video, and for the likes. Did both versions of the Skytops, lounge and sleeper have the same window pattern? Thanks again, KCRW287

No, the Creek series skytops (the 8-bedroom cars) looked a little different with the overhead and side glass extending a little more forward.

A great series of videos, though it looks like a few are on here twice.  Please post more if you have them.  Thanks!
