Nostalgia & History > Boundary Avenue in BaltimoreDate: 03/10/25 12:14 Boundary Avenue in Baltimore Author: ClubCar North Avenue, which is located about 20 blocks north of the center of Baltimore City (Charles Street and Baltimore Street) was first known as Boundary Avenue as described in many of the history books of Baltimore when the city was first incorporated. Anyhow, there were many streetcar routes that crossed North Avenue in the bygone days heading south to Downtown Baltimore. The number 13 line of the Baltimore Transit Company (BTC) operated streetcars almost the entire length of North Avenue, east to west, prior to when the National City Line Bus Company, who purchased the BTC, converted the line to bus operations which took place on January 10, 1954. Even with the conversion of the number 13 line to bus operations, there were still a number of other streetcar lines that operated over parts of the 13 line on North Avenue at that time Here are a few photos of streetcars that traveled on North Avenue prior to the conversion to bus operations which of course the riding public did not want. Photo one is looking west at North Avenue and Maryland Avenue. Photo two is looking east at North Avenue and Charles Street. Photo three is also looking east at North Avenue and Charles Street. Photos from the Baltimore Streetcar Museum, in my collection.

Thanks for sharing some classic shots. It looks like that Dairy truck is avoiding a possible fender bender with that '49 Ford. Kent in CArmel Valley |
