Big Blow to & fro at Henefer
Author: santafe199

Here’s a UP turbine outfit coming & going at Henefer, Utah. I’m wondering about the photographer’s vantage point. Did Emil perhaps climb up a signal mast? Hmmm...

1. & 2. UP 9 rolls through Henefer, UT on September 11, 1965.
Ektachrome copy slide by Emil Albrecht, from the late James W. Watson collection.

Thanks for looking to & fro!

Love those Gas Turbines.  On a Railfan Vacation in 1969, we stopped in Cheyenne WY, and there were still several Turbines in service. After getting permission from the yard
office to take some pictures. There was one running over near the Roundhouse.  The guy in the yard office, said they had a couple "New" Centennials in the yard.  I knew I
would be able to shoot pictures of Centennials for years to come,  but the Turbines were fading into history,  As we left Cheyenne, heading West,  a freight train heading West
that was Turbine powered was also leaving Cheyenne.  We were able to follow it for quite awhile.  I sped up, and got to Green River ahead of it.  and got more
pics of it going by.  A Great day to be Railfanning. with scenes you would never see again

I have NEVER seen a Cenntential with a Big Blow. NOT saying they aren't out there so let's see'em.

Probably shot from the Main St bridge in Henefer. Great scene with turbine #9. Thanks for posting.

Are there any recordings of them running?

I'd love to hear one too. To date I've not sourced a sound clip online, but it wouldn't surpise me if there were some old Pentrex videos (or similar) with big blows in dynamic stereo...

The signal in Photo 2 is interesting.  Looks like they needed a longer mast than they had availabe so they repurposed a Home/Distant Semaphore mast for it.  Note the distant arm gearbox, turned 90-degrees form where it would be in a semaphore.  It's the 'lump" about 5' below the signal head.
