Nostalgia & History > Oneonta Sunset on the Delaware and HudsonDate: 03/18/25 14:16 Oneonta Sunset on the Delaware and Hudson Author: aehouse It was nearing sunset on a summer evening in 1970, and I was working as head brakeman on a northbound Delaware and Hudson freight, paused to pick up cars at Oneonta, N.Y. The train's power, a mix of D&H and Erie Lackawanna locomotives, stands in the northbound yard throat at left, with our train occupying one of the two mainline tracks at far right. Normally a quick dance of drop-off and pick-up, we were delayed this particular evening waiting for the yard crew to finish assembling northbound cars for us to add to the train. I used the downtime to grab a few photos, including this one.
