Nostalgia & History > A place named Antares in NW Arizona - May 15, 2014Date: 04/14/25 15:39 A place named Antares in NW Arizona - May 15, 2014 Author: Super_C Antares is an official Arizona place name, according to Google. It is located around MP494 on the former Santa Fe mainline between Hackberry and Walapai, AZ. MP494 is not quite at the western end of a sweeping 2 1/2 mile curve.
I have pondered about posting these three images of two eastbound trains for two reasons; not much in the way of train content, and the impression that I have "doctored" the colors. The colors are what Mother Nature does so well in the western deserts of the US. The date was May 15, 2014 Allow me to set the scene: Camera is located at the 494 milepost looking west. The sky is mostly cloudy with the sun close to sunset with the light constantly changing. There are 2 eastbound trains coming. I have listed what is recorded in my files of notes of nearly all the trains I photograph. The times are recorded on the image metadata from the camera. The times are not perfect, but within a minute of actual times. I set the camera clock at the start of every photo outing. Here are the trains in sequential order. What is truly striking is how quickly the colors change as the sun hits the western horizon. The trains are only 12 minutes apart and just look at how the colors have changed! For those not familiar with that area route 66 makes a big curve like the tracks just to the right of your photos. A few miles ahead behind the photographer is the frequent tourist stop the Hackberry General Store. Map on their site shows your location Antares. https://www.explorekingman.com/day-trip-Hackberry-General-Store/

This is a winner of Low Light/Glint Photography, Thank you for posting. Don Winslow, I hope you can see this from above! We miss you! This is great inspiration for our intrepid "Sir Lance" of low light photos to serve up some new extraordinary Kansas Billiard Ball Table Sunset Stuff! I can only wish I had this talent.
