Nostalgia & History > Emil at the Point againDate: 04/15/25 06:18 Emil at the Point again Author: santafe199 I believe this train is approaching the same spot where photographer Emil Albrecht shot another train in this thread: ( Emil Albrecht shoots the cut-off! ). I think there might be a more correct ETT location here, but all I know is Promontory Point.
1. 2. & 3. SP 9337 on a manifest at Promontory Point, UT on August 9, 1975. Caboose # is unknown. Three original slides by Emil Albrecht, from the late James W. Watson collection. Thanks for looking back! Lance Garrels santafe199 Remembering the late Emil Albrecht Edited 1 time(s). Here's a Google Street View of the east end of the siding, which the train would have been approaching in Emil's third photo:

JB Date: 04/15/25 10:46 Re: Emil at the Point again Author: x6924w Wonder if all those box cars in the first photo are part of the "rip-rap fleet"? I can't remember exactly when SP did that on the fill.

Although it was very likely those cars were in ‟rip-rap” service for M-o-W then (@ E end of Bridge, M/p 752.9 near E end of original pile trestle for the Lucin ‟cutoff” – see 25th listing under ‟Stations” for the Ogden Subdivision near p.7’s center in SP’s Sacramento Division employee TimeTable № 4 eff.04/27/1975, ref.: https://wx4.org/to/foam/sp/maps/perryETT/1975-04-27SP_Sacramento4-SheldonPerry.pdf), SP’s major repairs and rebuilding of the Lucin ‟cutoff” causeways began during 1983-84 after the lake rose rapidly (over 3 ft. in 1982). Emil’s position was just-over ¼ mi. NNW from the actual locale of the Promontory Point feature itself (ref.: https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/#16/41.2079/-112.4323).
