So where was the NW 4100 (a GP 38?) when it was scooting along with this westbound train ?

I don't know the location, but I find it interesting that the N & W ran short hood forward, at least in this picture. Was that the case until it merged with Southern to become NS?

How about somewhere along the joint Sante Fe/Norfork and Western track between
WB Jct (Carrollton, MO) and CA Jct (orrick, MO)?

THE 4100 HAD DUAL CONTROL STANDS FOR RUNNING IN EITHER DIRECTION. WHEN NW AQUIRED THE SD40'S WITH LOW NOSES THEY CHANGED TO ONE CONTROL STAND WHICH WAS SET UP FOR LONG HOOD LEAD BUT THOSE UNITS WERE OPERATED IN EITHER DIRECTION TOO BECAUSE THEY AFFORDED GREATER VISIBILITY.
