The train would split at Albany-Rensselaer, NY (525 East Street, Rensselaer). One section ran to Boston, MA, and the other terminated at New York City, NY. Tracks were former New York Central RR then operated as Conrail.

I used Slumbercoach accomodations on this train a couple times in the 1980's, so I know it ran with one. However, the one in this train seems to have fewer single (staggered) windows than the 16 that were in the cars I was on (plus 8 double rooms). I think there were two versions, one had less singles than the other, so if this is a Slumbercoach, this may have been one of those cars. Amtrak had 24/8's and 16/10's. The car in the photo looks like a 16/10. The 1980's was the best decade of Amtrak. A CHI-NYG slumber room on the Lake Shore was only $24 over coach fare. It's a crying shame how far Amtrak has declined from the good old days!. 'Fraid today's image and power don't quite measure up...Thanks, Kurt.
