Charles Town, WV question
Author: 5-String

When was the connecting track abandoned between the N&W and B&O lines?

An old map shows at one time trains going north on the N&W could diverge east on the B&O (and westbound B&O trains could diverge south on N&W's Shenandoah Valley Line).

Thanks a lot. I'm thinking of modeling the area and was wondering how long ago the connecting track was removed.

I don't know about the track arrangement in Charlestown, WV; but that's the arrangement of the connecting track at Shenandoah Jct., WV, off the ex-B&O main about 5 miles further north. The interchange at Shenandoah Jct. was officially closed about 2 years ago; but the track is still in place. Gerry

The connection track was known as the Charles Town Belt. It branched off from the NW main just north of the Ranson diamond. I remember MofW eqpt. being stored on it as late as the early nineties.
