BN's most noteworthy SDP45 was photographed at West Burlington, Iowa during the December 1986/January 1987 time frame (again, don't ask for the specific date, too many brain cells down the drain since then).

The 6599's claim to fame is that it tested a four axle B+B truck that paved the way for EMD's self-steering radial truck kinda thing. Part of the fuel tank was removed to make room for the new truck.

6599 was in a dead line at West Burlington, along with other 20 cylinder BN power (SD45, SDP45, F45) ...

As a companion to the thread above, attached is a shot of BN 6599 at the Precision National plant in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on 12 March 1989.

Funny thing is that somebody snagged the experimental truck and put a regular flexicoil truck (painted in silver, no less) on the rear before it was sent to Mt. Vernon.

Again, as a companion to the above threads, attached is the last shot I ever took of 6599. Location is the Precision National plant at Mt. Vernon, Illinois on 20 January 1991.

The replacement truck is still on the rear and is still in silver.

And as a warning to Q-GP30, if you even mention me getting nostalgic for cascade green, well, we will be headed to the woodshed for some serious discussion!

Would I mention you have had a hankering for the green lately? I would'nt do that! As of this week, the NRE website still lists the 6599 for sale at Mount Vernon along with three former FWD/BN SD7's, a Ex Q GP20 and a Ex Q GP30.
