Santa Fe on Tehachapi in '83
Author: 3rdswitch

In April '83, a westbound Santa Fe train was dropping downgrade into Caliente, CA. Notice the washout along Caliente Bodfish road in the distance indicating this was one of the wetter "Springtime in the Tehachapi's".

That was the year that introduced the term "El Nino" to the general public. Not all the washouts were limited to the Caliente-Bodfish Road. That's mighty fresh-looking ballast under the locos there. Believe it was after this winter that they double-tracked the line between Caliente and Ilmon.
