The end was near for Santa Fe's F-7B's......

More from my new Epson 4870 Scanner......

In August of 1978, all that was left from the once mighty F-3/7 fleet on the Santa Fe was several dozen "B" units. The CF-7 program had processed the majority (if not all) of the "A" units by this date.

GP-7 2826, although in the "Yellow Bonnet", would itself succumb to yet another Cleburne, Texas project. It successfully made it through to the BNSF; today she is their 3825.

Interesting! I didn't know any red/silver warbonnet B units survived until 1978, let alone blue/yellow F3B's!

Actually, it's an F7B.

F7s 260LABC thru 267LABC were delivered without filter grilles.

Why weren't the B units converted into CF7's? It seems like Cleburne had to fabricate almost the whole CF7 (at least the last ones) from scratch anyway so why not build a cab too. ICG did it. Did ATSF not need that many 4 axle units to justify the extra effort?

Posted in 2004. At some point a few years ago, there was a server changeover and a bunch of stuff was lost.
