San Diego, El Cajon branch, eastside of Grossmont Summit, heading toward El Cajon. The power consits of 2 SW8's, I believe these might be Kyle Railways SD&AE units, having taken over operations here from the SP in the early 80's. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this was a passenger excursion put on by the La Mesa Railroad club for Octoberfest celebration. Thats my guess.

Correction, on further review, maybe heading back to La Mesa. So westside Grossmont Summit, or near summit.

Yes, Kevin, you're right. This is Grossmont Summit in 1982, I loved that old ped. bridge for Grossmont High, long gone now. That bridge was probably built in the 20's for students to cross over the SD&AE branch line. My slides are dated Aug. 82, so I don't think it was Octoberest, but I can't remember any other details except it was put on by the Pacific SouthwestR.R. Museum. This is the only time I saw them run "cab-forward! This is only 1/2 mile from my house. This scene now is totally different, double-track trolley line. Here are a few more shots of this train...
