There was a thread about the 4294 a year or so more about the engine. Somehow a 1 to 2 million dollar figure comes to mind for her to be operational again. All i have to say is shes too damn big to run. There is a reason why there is only one large articulated running, and thats by a private company.

I think the only hope was for the Centennial in 1969. I wonder if any RR shop really could do the work required anymore. And I'ld be real surprised if the knowledge base is still available.

As I recall, was there not a group proposing running her active in the late 80's?
They wanted to run excursions from Sac to Roseville, using the turntable that, at the time, was at Norden.

My guess is the only real thing they ever accomplished was selling hats with 4294 on the them.
