Nostalgia & History > "Backdated" SP 2248Date: 01/07/05 17:25 "Backdated" SP 2248 Author: n6nvr SP 2248 after having been relieved of fire train service on Donner was "backdated" by the SP for promotional purposes. This was taken either along San Fernando Rd or down by the Spring St. Station. Note the pedestrian bridge to the rear of the train. This was probably taken in 56 or 57. The engine was later sold and was stored in the backdated visage in San Fernando where it was knocked over in the '71 earthquake. Subsequently it was sold again and is (I believe) still running on the Texas State RR.

My Grandfather used to be the agent at that station in the 30's Date: 01/09/05 21:24 Re: "Backdated" SP 2248 Author: KeyRouteKen The SP 2248 was a very popular excursion engine in Northern California in the 50's... St.Helena, Sacramento, lots of neat places. I'll have to look for my photos of the trips, if you're interested..
