Heres GP20 2005 leading a westbound near Rock Creek Trestle in 1964. It looks like its been up and down the canyon quite a few times without seeing the wash rack.

I actually took the photo in 1964 instead of 1962. The second unit is GP35 3010 which was built in 1963.

I thought WP's geeps were set up long hood forward; did they change that or was this engineer straining his neck?

WP engines had dual controls right up to the GP35s; there was no "long end front" policy, you ran them the way it was.
