To see large versions of the ads use the below links - 1938 20th Century Limited advertisement - http://www.arizona-rails.com/id236.htm 1963 GP-30's on the NYC http://www.arizona-rails.com/id237.htm JMW arizona-rails.com Date: 01/27/05 15:01 Re: NYC Advertisements - 1938 & 1963 Author: derek20la What was the water-level route they talk of? They mention it several times, so had they just built it to replace an older route?
Sorry if it seems like a dumb question but I'm not too familar with east coast history. Thanks, Derek Date: 01/27/05 15:48 Re: NYC Advertisements - 1938 & 1963 Author: XMOP derek20la Wrote:

Thanks, > Derek To the best of my knowledge, the "Water Level Route" is in reference to the NYC line running along the Great Lakes. Lake Erie, Huron and Michigan are effectively at the same level. But it could easily refer to the whole route. Frome New York north along the Hudson River, then west from Albany like the Erie Canal, and finally along the lake (Erie) to Chicago (on Lake Michigan). Maybe the image is taking a level route make for a smoother ride as in no mountains to climb. I believe that it also remains the fastest route. Ron Zimmer Date: 01/27/05 16:08 Re: NYC Advertisements - 1938 & 1963 Author: nycman Ron has it right. "The Water Level Route. You can Sleep." The Erie Canal parallelled the Mohawk River, which was the natural waterway east-west in New York.

Richard Dreyfus styling ~ Buck Rogers. OTOH ... Otto Kuhler = What heaven must have looked like in the 1930's. I'd say it made me homesick, but the Hudson line was only a temporary home....rode many thousands of miles on it.... Date: 01/29/05 17:08 Re: NYC Advertisements - 1938 & 1963 Author: NYCSTL8 I believe it was Henry Dreyfuss, not Richard, who is an actor, who styled the "Buck Rogers" way.
