Technicaly the Muni double ended cars are not PCCs. (Something about royalties.) The PERy PCCs were PCCs, built by Pullman Standard, I believe. Unfortunately none were saved here. At the time the Orange Empire folks told me that they were in too poor mechanical condition.

The origjnal double end Muni cars (1001-1005) were not PCCs. The next bunch (1006-1015) were PCCs as the city charter provision regarding royalties was amended.

I wasn't sure myself so I looked it up. The ten double-end cars WEER PCCs, although the body shells were nearly identical with the prewar "Magic Carpet" cars. Those "Magic Carpet" cars were the ones that got around paying royalities. I remember riding in one or two of them and I think they used controllers. - Tony J.

Yes, instead of foot pedals, they had a controller for power and brake. One exists at the Rio Vista Junction museum.
