(Something about royalties.) The PERy PCCs were PCCs, built by Pullman Standard, I believe. Unfortunately none were saved here. At the time the Orange Empire folks told me that they were in too poor mechanical condition.

The origjnal double end Muni cars (1001-1005) were not PCCs. The next bunch (1006-1015) were PCCs as the city charter provision regarding royalties was amended. The ten double-end cars WEER PCCs, although the body shells were nearly identical with the prewar "Magic Carpet" cars. Those "Magic Carpet" cars were the ones that got around paying royalities. Yes, instead of foot pedals, they had a controller for power and brake. One exists at the Rio Vista Junction museum. |
