Nostalgia & History > More from Roosevelt RoadDate: 03/20/05 05:03 More from Roosevelt Road Author: GPutz This is Amtrak E8Au #498, ex-Amtrak #315, exx-PC #4309, exxx-PRR #5809, leading AMTubes from Chicago Union Station on 5/20/77. I have images of this same unit in the early '80s at South Station, Boston, MA. It looks good here; but even better now as PRR #5809 again. There's more at:

Along the top of it and it's sister 5711 there is a long tube or pipe that runs the length of the locomotive. Can someone tell me what this is? Thanks.

PRR fans, if I used the wrong term for it, I apologize, but waasn't it an 'induction' system? Can someone point me to more info about this unit and it's sister? I am looking for rebuild history and equipment etc. I notice they have some exhaust mounted on the back for a hep unit it seems.

It's interesting that a google search did not bring that site up. Hmmm. Craig Date: 03/21/05 08:02 Re: PRR 5809 Restoration Author: RunningMan There is also a site for the 5711 restoration.
