(Now, don't ask for a definition of "film".)

What we're seeing here is a yard job from the Homestead Yard dragging a pick-up out Hanlon's Lead. Leaving the Homestead at Magnolia, the 50- and 70-Leads converged to become the Work Lead, and continued through Jack London Square (the rails are still visible today in the pavement in First Street) as far as Fruitvale Tower. South of the square, the Work Lead changed names and became Hanlon's Lead. The cars the 1116 is pulling will be left on Hanlon's for an eastbound [geographically southbound] train to pick up, and the 1116 will return light engine to the Homestead. Note the 1116 has a Pyle Gyralight mounted above the headlight housing. It acquired the signal light during its days on the NWP. It was the only SP SD7 to have dual controls and a scarlet "feather" painted on the hood sides on the long-hood, denoting its dual-control status. Students of SP's Commute Geeps will be quick to catch on. |
