West Oakland memories

It is July 23, 1974 and Amtrak is using many of Espee's passenger F-units for assignments out of West Oakland. Here is Amtrak #144 (ex-SP6450)getting a steam bath. - Tony J.

A few tracks over from Amtrak #114 was #133 (ex-SP6449) as it waits outside the West Oakland Diesel Shop. - Tony J.

While at Homstead Yard I saw what happened to Topper one day. His conductor said, "Back 'em up a couple pole lengths," and Topper said, "I thought you said to put my engine between two poles!" - Tony J.

As a reward for parking his SW1500 between poles, the next day Topper was assigned this flashly piece of motive power.

"I'll switch them one car at a time," replied Topper. - Tony J.

I was so tired last night I went to bed real early (about 8:45, and as usual I woke up about 1:45AM and couldn't fall back asleep. So I got up to make a DVD for a friend and post some photos. Looks like there are several of us that couldn't sleep. - Tony J.
