I never have seen a Rio Grande SD45 in real life, but these photos leave no doudt in my mind of what a wonderful locomotive they were. End set 3, Hope you like them! Nathan Z. Thanks for posting these. D&RGW a favorite of mine. RickH Date: 08/11/05 08:03 Re: D&RGW SD45 5334 today Author: Grande-Fan Thanks TonyJ and RickH,
The SD45 was a tough looking locomotive! The modern power does not hold a candle to these units when it comes to style. Nathan Z. Date: 08/11/05 11:20 Re: D&RGW SD45 5334 today Author: TonyJ Grande-Fan Wrote:

You're telling us! As a senior railfan (I'm called that a lot!) I didn't care much for the SP/DRVW/SSW SD45s because they help finish off my First Generation favorites, such as the GP9s, SD9s, and F-units. But later on I grew to love the tremendous roar of six to ten SD45s on a heavy train on Tehachapi, Donner and on the Siskiyous. I don't think I'll ever get such enjoyment watching two SD70-somethings, looking like they're still in a packing crate, powering a train with not as much noise. This always reminds me of how excited people get when a new paint scheme is introduced. The new wears off quick. Folks forget about the locomotives that EMD produced 20 plus years ago and how wonderful those old SD locomotives really are! The choices of mainline railroads is so slim now, but at least we have photos of the Fallen Flags! Nathan Z. |
