Hockey!, Hockey! Hockey!
Author: kgmontreal

On CPR's Park sub north of Montreal there are two new operating points: Jean Beliveau and Maurice Richard. The former is the north wye switch of the new connection from Quebec Gatineau's Trois Rivieres sub to CPR's line to Ste-Therese. Maurice Richard is the end CTC point of the new installation at St-Martin Jct. So we have Jean Beliveau (operating point J-E-A) and Maurice Richard (M-A-U).

Attached are three photos: one of the Jean Beliveau sign, the second of a train at the J-E-A switch and a third of the same train at M-A-U.

Left out are "Boom-Boom" Geoffrion (B-O-O) and Jacques Plante (M-A-S-K).

And if you don't know who any of these men are...........well, you're probably a conductor in Biloxi, Mississippi and not a Canadian. And certainly not a Quebecois. But I digress.

Hi Ken:

How about some Toronto Maple Leaf representation? Somebody could have a station named "Shack" as in Eddie Shack. Most of our generation willremember;'Clear the track, here comes Shack!"

What about DRYDEN?

What about "Oar" Hill? Is there a "Salming" anywhere? (I still like the Leafs) ... and did anyone name a place after "Henderson"? He saved a nation from devastation in September 1972.

Out of curiousity, are Beliveau, Richard, Geoffrion and Plante still alive?

Rick

Although he was a Habs hero for a # of years, being an Ontarian, the Big Kid may not be of sufficient Habitant pedigree to warrant a Montreal control point being named for him. And now he's a politician, to boot. Besides, I always thought he was the namesake of the station on the LV's Auburn Branch, just east of Ithaca!

Leafs representation? How many Tim Horton's are near the tracks in Ontario or Quebec.

My suggestion would be to have the above-mentioned "Shack" sign in a place where there are many trees, so people can remember the old adage "You know it's springtime in Ontario when the weather's nice and the Leafs are falling..."

Being a Leafs fan is like standing beside an abandoned branchline waiting for a train.

If Hamilton gets a team Toronto will want one too.

well, being a coyotes fan out here in northern arizona is like waiting for amtrak to expand routes and service with new passenger cars and motors......

life would sure be a bummer without the "CENTER ICE" satellite t.v. package broadcasting Hockey Night in Canada.........

Well, that would certainly make sense, given that he played college hockey for nearby Cornell University. But I think the village of Dryden was named long before that.

All gone except Beliveau who can be seen at most Habs games. A bit off subject but I have been to all excepting one NHL arena, both current and defunct and all by train excepting Phoenix, Columbus and Nashville who have no long distance service. The longest was:

Toronto (Leafs vs Jets)...Canadian to Winnipeg (Jets vs. Hawks)...Super Continental to Edmonton (Oilers vs. Kings), dayliner to Calgary (Flames vs. Hawks)...Canadian to Vancouver (Canucks vs. Wings) flight to SFO, car to LA (Kings vs. Wings). Desert Wind home. All in about 10 days in 1985. Sad that this could no longer be done with tri weekly service on only one route and of course the Jets are gone too!

Canadian Pacific already has crew change point known as Dryden, in Northern Ontario.

Dryden? New Year's Eve 1975...weak goal allowed the Red Army to squeak out a tie. Ultimately the task was left to the Broad Street Bullies (GO FLYERS!) to dispatch the Russian undefeated hopes in the Summit Series...so no...no interlocking for Dryden.

Cheers,
Nick
