Now and Then - A Variation
Author: cn6218

I spent part of my Fall vacation in new England this year. Normally that wouldn't count as Canadian content, except that I ran into a couple familiar faces. Vermont Railway System has a couple former CN GP40-2Ws in service. Number 310 has a nice fresh red dip with chevrons paint job, and 311 is... not as attractive. As luck would have it, 311 was leading the daily Rutland to Bellows Falls freight, 263, on the day I decided to chase them. The train is shown here at the Okemo ski area, a few miles west of Ludlow, VT. 311 is the former 9662, shown at the Fairview Diesel shop on July 19, 1997.

A few days later, I followed Guilford (or Pan Am Railways) train NMED from Waterville to Lewiston. It also had a former CN diesel in the lead, from a group of 20 that CN sold to Helm, and then Helm either sold or leased to Guilford. 512 is shown here leading HLCX 6200 and 39 cars through Winthrop, ME on October 14. 9652 was photographed at the Fairview Diesel Shop on July 31, 1997.
