Date: 04/27/10 08:55 Re: GO transit at Oshawa Author: sooman1 I did not see a switcher at the plant, but heard the horn a few times.. in the 3 hours I was on the bridge there were not more than 10 trucks, I had expected a lot more truck traffic..

I'm told the surface line of the TTC going east toward Scarborough was built on the CNor alignment, but east of there to Trenton, I'm not sure where it went.

Exited Toronto parallel to the CP Belleville sub, near Meadowvale Road. Crossing the CP Belleville at grade in the middle of Cherrywood siding. Had its own trestle over Dixie Creek. From there stayed north of Taunton Road until Oshawa. South of Taunton from there east to Newtonville (station at Solina, east of Oshawa still exists as private residence.) CNoR Bowmanville station was actually closer to Tyrone. Orono station was, believe it or not, on Station Street. Crossed Newtonville Rd around concession 5 (Starkville.) Line turned south along the west bank of the Ganaraska entering Port Hope, and crossed the river well north of downtown on a curved trestle (station building still exists, former MTO building on Hwy 28.) From there east to Trenton, mostly parallel to the CP Belleville sub again. Shared station with CP in Belleville. The Oshawa Street Railway used to connect with the CNoR by the lumber yard near Simcoe and Taunton...all long gone. ...John Reay |
