Fraser Canyon Slide?
Author: cp1400

On Sunday trains were running Against the Current Of Traffic on CP in the Fraser Canyon. Apparently this is due to two slides blocking CN track. One in the Thompson canyon near Lasha that may have derailed a train. I heard the second slide is up to 200 feet wide near Falls Creek in the Fraser canyon. Anyone have any more information and how long it will take to reopen CN?

Here are two late day shots of ACOT trains on the CP Cascade Sub Sunday.

1. CP coal train at MP 70.4 westbound between Harrison and Deroche.

2. CN train 117 (?) at Nicomen.

Apparently "half the mountain" came down near Falls Creek. Whether that's an exaggeration or not, the line is expected to remain shut down for at least a few more days.

Here's the mess the Cascade and Thompson RTC's have on their hands. Yikes!

Looks a mess. Can you explain the colors and codes please for us in UK (also very wet and with slides - much smaller!)

Slide is over 300 ft long and about 50 ft deep.

Red would be occupied sections with trains actively in them, green would be sections of track that have been lined for train movement, white is track that is neither occupied nor authorized for movement, and grey is just opposite legs of turnouts and things for track completeness (meaning the leg that isn't currently lined). The rest of these I'm guessing at - yellow is likely control points that are still waiting to time out after train passage, and typically blue/purple are trackage out of service for MoW or things that have been tied down.

Might have been nice to have retained that siding at Katz ... http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,2906231
