Until it was discontinued in November 1981, you could board a CP and later VIA train and travel along the north shore of the Ottawa River to Montebello and the famous Canadian Pacific Resort there.

It’s now a Fairmont but signs of its CP heritage are still around. In 1981 it hosted a G7 Summit and Reagan, Thatcher, Trudeau......were all there.

And the former CP line through Montebello is now the Quebec Gatineau Railway

The QG is a great shortline. They keep their locos spotless. In this shot the Lachute Sub train heads for Thurso by way of Montebello.
