Canadian Railroads > CP 3GS21B's 2100&2101 retired?

A recent picture on RP.net states that CP has retired the two 3GS21B Genset switchers they acquired in 08 I believe. Is this in fact true? Or was this photographer mistaking this for the Green Goat retirement?

My information is that one is retired and the other will be. Their death sentence was written when CP went to Progress Rail for the GP22ECO's (2200's).

I still don't understand why they would be retired just because CP bought some EMD ECO's. There has to be another reason like CP hasn't been impressed with Genset type switchers? Seems to me if they were good units but they just didn't have plans to buy more they would keep them around.

Who said Gensets were good locomotives?

the NRE Gensets that csx has (Which are the same as the CP ones) seem to spend about 1/2 the time in the shops, and the rest of the time attempting to work.
In the yards, they tend to keep them matched up with an SD50 for "puller power" for cuts coming out of the hump class yard and being swung over to the departure yards.
for a time, they tried to use two of the gensets together in MU, but they "couldn't pull themselves out of a wet paper bag" said the RFE...
So, yeah, gensets save fuel, but they're not the magic bullet the railroads are looking for...I think you'll see them relegated to low-horsepower switching duties, and even that's a tall order these days...with LTEX and others willing to sell you a used "Actual" locomotive on the cheap!

CP 2101 tied up unserviceable at Toronto May 29/13.
