Canadian Railroads > CP on GE's Gen ll Radial Trucks

Good afternoon all, I was wondering if any pictures exist of when CP AC44's were tested on GE's Gen ll Radial trucks? Also does anybody have any recollection of how the tests went or any other information?

If you go on the "mountainrailway.com" site there's a Bill Sanderson photo of CP 8501 on the experimental trucks. The unit was subsequently retrucked to standard radial trucks.

CP's GEVO units initially came on radial trucks. But beginning with unit 8760 all subsequent GEVO orders have reverted to non-radial trucks. This would indicate that CP no longer sees a benefit to radial trucks.

There is a benefit to GE's radial truck design, but CP found that the benefit wasn't large enough to offset the higher cost to overhaul this truck design. The overhauls for the first batch of AC4400CWs came due just after the first batch of ES44ACs were ordered.
