Canadian Railroads > CN washout in St. CatharinesDate: 07/28/14 16:15 CN washout in St. Catharines Author: TheCurator Couldn't find anything online about it yet, but a local newscast reported a CN rail line was disrupted by a washout (somewhere) in the St. Catharines area. Freight trains are being re-routed and Amtrak's 'Maple Leaf' has been suspended with passengers being bussed.
Anyone have any clarification? Date: 07/28/14 16:46 Re: CN washout in St. Catharines Author: thehighwayman TheCurator Wrote:

They kept going at 15 mph, there was an emergency call over the radio. They had gone over a washout. The crew advised the locos and first 6 cars got over the area but one track was hanging in mid air the other was washed out about 30% on one side. They were told to leave the train where it was. CN 422 & 331 were left in Port Robinson and Via(Amtrak) were advised the line was shut down. Work equipment showed up at Merriton to be staged, about 3 p/m they went west to the site. About 3.15 PM the Trillium showed up and were told by the dispatcher they could not get across till at least 7-8 PM. They left the engine #110 and 4 boxcars on the siding till this morning. The work train was out again this AM finishing up. The Trillium guys finally got over the CN and did their deliveries about 9.30 AM today.
