Kelowna ?

Is there any rail service in Kelowna at all anymore? If all service is
suspended are the rails still there or have they been lifted? This has
to rate as one of the largest cities in Canada without rail service now
I'm thinking.

Victoria is another reasonably large city without rail service.

In the October issue of Branchline there was a news item based on a report in the Kelowna Daily Courier of August 26, in which the owner of the former Okanagan Valley Wine Train said he was worried his cars stored at Kelowna would be marooned once CN lifted the rails. There were 11 such cars there.

Jim, do you know how that turned out?

Sydney (Cape Breton Regional Municipality) pop 95,000 will lose their service the end of this December.

I'm not sure of the population of Charlottetown, but it and Fredericton are two more provincial capitals without rail .... the situation gets even sadder!

I have only been there once when I rode the train from Montreal to Chicoutimi in 82,and it looked to me like it was a fair sized city. Is line to Chicoutimi gone, and if so ;what year was it removed? Seems like the conductor told me they were talking about abandoning the line then.

Yes, the line is abandoned beyond the aluminum smelter at Arvida, about ten miles to Chicoutimi. Late 1980's, I believe.

Alcan moved their fences to include CN trackage at Arvida. The Alcan owned shortline, Roberval Saguenay crossed the CN at Arvida, at "Diamant" (Diamond). That also was moved inside the plant boundary.

The 11 Wine Train Cars were finally purchased and moved out of Kelowna on Oct 11 & 12 2015.  Towed out by a Hi-Rail equipped boom truck to Vernon and then transported to Alberta for a new tourist train operation.  See the pics and article on my facebook page www.facebook.com/SavetheOkanaganRailwayCorridor
