Possible retired CN SD75 and BCR C40-8M due to accident
Author: BCR4619

Sometime in the last quarter of 2014 I ran across an article that showed 2 units, SD75 (I think) and a BCR -8 that were morphed together pretty good, some reports suggested it took several chains and the unit in north 3 to pull them apart.

Fast foreword to yesterday when I ran across this photo on Instagram that was apparently taken at Transcona shops. Looks like the 75 has been gutted pretty good and the BCR unit has a capped stack.

From the article it looked as if the pilot on the BCR unit was non existent.... Does anyone have any further info to whats happening? Sorry I do not have unit numbers.

Cheers,
Christian

Looking into things it seems 5717 was wrecked in 2009? If so then that begs the question anyone know whats with the x-BCR motor?

Not sure if it's the same power, but there was an accident in Winnipeg where the crew was reversing with a Bc rail covered wagon without anyone on the point. Visibility is obviously bad with these units, and they ran into other power. I'll have to see if I can find the photo, but both units were fused together pretty good.

The point is "nobody on the point", poor visibility or not. Doug

Agreed. I wasn't trying to make excuses for the crew...

Neither of those locomotives looks damaged enough to me to justify retirement. Sure, the CN locomotive is minus a prime mover, but those can be replaced. Its frame looks straight; a bent frame or extensive body damage is a more typical cause for scrapping wrecked locomotives.

Agreed. Those units look like they can be rebuilt to me as well.

CN SD75 - CN 5717 Wreck Damage
Author: Ron

I was able to find a few photographs of the CN 5717.

I can't really determine if the frame on this one is bent. Usually they will repair wreck damaged locomotives if the frames aren't bent out of shape.
