The Canadian at 60!
Author: ghCBNS

The original CPR Canadian was inaugurated on April 24, 1955. Here’s some shots from the CP Rail era in the ‘70’s:

Looks like the letterboard is black in the last shot? Commemorative paint job?

The change in the colour is for the Prestige sleepers and Park cars only.

VIA had a bit more celebration for the 50th anniversary.  With the full launch of Prestige service, I was hoping that VIA would have an open house at various stations, but this appears not to be happening. They put on interesting displays when Silver and Blue Class was introduced in 1992 and when the Renaissance "Ocean" was fully operational.  A Ren. Ocean was on display even in Toronto and Oakville and other "off-line" stations.

I assume #1 is at Montreal and #4 looks to be Toronto, but where are the rest of the photos taken at if you know?

Thanks,

Kris

Hope it lasts as long as the equipment can be kept in good condition. Amtrak take note. Equipment is the same age of what you thought was too old in 1981. Now its replacement (Superliners) is starting to show its age. A good maintance program can and is keeping the Budds running seemingly forever. I wonder if these fine cars will still be around when the Viewliner II's are deemed to be "to old."

VIA's LD equipment is slow to accumulate mileage. The winter consists are very short, infrequent, and running times are as slow as the inept CN wants them to be.

No, this was unofficial.

Thank You for the information, I find it interesting to see the locations and time frame pics were taken.
It's sort of like a time capsule with changes that take place over time.

I can now report that the unofficial 60th anniversary drumhead sign shown in the photo I posted on April 29 made it all the way to Toronto and, amazingly, all the way back to Vancouver on May 2. That's a great endorsement for whoever manufactured that duct tape!

Ain't that the truth!  NRPC could never take care of its toys and always threw them away with never a second thought. Always short of equipment as a result, too.
